PORTLAND, CT--Gary H. Collins, founder and CEO of the Collins Foundation, Inc., announced today that the Foundation has begun accepting applications for its 2010 scholarship class.
"We are expecting to see an increased number of applications this year due to the challenging economic environment," Collins added, "and are working hard to ensure that we'll be able to fund a scholarship for every qualified candidate."
The Foundation is inviting senior level students who are presently attending a Connecticut public high school and who will be attending college in the fall semester of 2010 to apply. Additionally, a select number of underclassman will be selected to receive a scholarship that can be applied toward their college educations upon graduation from high school.

All 2010 scholarship recipients will be honored at a breakfast presently scheduled to take place on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s holiday on Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Inn at Middletown at 8:30 a.m. The Foundation’s Community Service award recipients will also be honored at this event. Further, this year’s celebration will serve as a food drive to benefit area homeless shelters and food cooperatives.
The Collins Foundation Inc.’s Power of One Scholarship Fund considers and selects scholarship recipients based upon the judgment its scholarship committee and without regard to race, color, religious creed, gender, national origin, ancestry or sexual orientation.
