“The impact that dedicated individuals and organizations can have on the children in our community can never be overstated,” Gary H. Collins, founder and CEO of the Collins Foundation, Inc, said following today’s King Day celebration breakfast. “These are the groups and people helping raise the children in our community.”
Families and organizations from across the state came together to not only support the Foundation’s scholarship and community service award recipients but were instrumental in the event’s food drive, which will help feed close to 500 families during this difficult winter.
The food drive benefitted the St. Vincent DePaul Place & the Amazing Grace Food Pantry. St. Vincent’s provides food, clothing, shelter and basic human services to poor and homeless individuals regardless of race, creed, national origin, criminal history or recidivism. Their soup kitchen serves more than 88,000 meals annually. Their food pantry provides food to more than 800 households per month. Collectively, they are providing more than 300,00 meals annually. Children make up one-third of their clientele.
